Inertia in Your Hand: Rendering Virtual Tool Dynamics via In-Hand Cutaneous Deformation

Summary

This paper presents the Inertia Handle, a handheld haptic device that renders virtual tool dynamics through in-hand cutaneous deformation. By modeling hand-tool coupling and adapting feedback from grip force, the paper shows how compact in-hand motion can communicate virtual tool direction, length, and tool-matched dynamics in VR.
